HSA reports an increase in workplace accidents in Ireland

Manual handling incidents and falls resulted in the highest number of injuries in workplaces.

8,700 non-fatal workplace injuries impacted employees in Ireland in 2022, according to the latest Health and Safety Authority (HSA) statistics. This was an increase of 8% on the previous year and the second annual increase in a row.

Manual handling incidents and falls resulted in the highest number of injuries in workplaces. Back injuries were the most common injury experienced, reported in 26% of accidents at work.

Industrial or maintenance work environments experienced the largest percentage of work-related incidents.

Tracey Solicitors LLP Managing Partner, Paul Tracey, has seen this trend reflected in the number of workplace accident compensation cases taken on over the past two years.

“The number of people we’re helping with compensation claims following an accident at work is increasing every year. In particular, the statistics show the need for employers to be constantly vigilant in their obligations to provide a safe work environment for their employees.”
