On the day of the accident Conor was cycling his electric bike on his usual route along a national road. He was following all road regulations. Without warning, a fast-moving car collided with his bicycle, knocking him to the ground and causing injury to his left arm.
Conor was immediately brought to the hospital where he was assessed and had x-rays taken. The assessment and x-ray results revealed a fractured ring finger, soft tissue injuries on his left wrist and left elbow, an abrasion on his left forearm and a lesion to a nerve on his forearm.
Because of his injuries, Conor’s was unable to return to work for one year and five months. He needed regular physiotherapy and occupational therapy to help his recovery.
Conor’s mental health was also affected, and he was prescribed antidepressants to manage this. He also had disrupted sleep from nightmares about the accident.
While he was a regular cyclist before the accident, he developed a fear of cycling as a result of the accident. He was also unable to attend the gym for an extended period of time because of reduced strength in the left side of his body.
Court proceedings were instigated, and the case was brought to a successful conclusion.
The case was settled in the High Court on the 13th of July 2023 for the sum of €70,000.
