Crumlin event harnesses the power of community to raise vital funds for hospice.
Tracey Solicitors LLP were delighted to support this important fundraiser.
17 years ago, Crumlin residents Shirley and Fran Lawlor hosted a small coffee morning in a living room to raise vital funds for Our Lady’s Hospice. Both Shirley and Fran had family members who had sadly passed away that were cared for by the dedicated team at the hospice. The women wanted to do whatever they could to give back to this essential service.
The first event was such a success, Shirley continued to host it on an annual basis. Each year the coffee morning grew larger, eventually becoming too big for the living room and so it evolved into a street party, bringing together the community and raising more money with each passing year.
Solicitor Maria Lakes, who herself had a personal experience with Our Lady’s Hospice in Crumlin, learned of the event and was eager to get involved.
Maria, together with Marketing Manager Lisa Hickey, headed out to Crumlin to give hands on support with the fundraising. Maria says she witnessed the incredible power of community coming together for an important cause.
“The energy and dedication of the organisers of this event truly blew us away,” said Maria. “There were so many people who had worked long hours to make this fundraiser a success. People had been up all night making an enormous amount of cakes and sandwiches for the day. A coffee van donated their services to offer refreshments, and two local musicians gave up their time to play live music, which made the atmosphere on the street electric! There was even a small petting farm for the younger children.”
“People of all ages chipped in whatever they could, from school kids donating their pocket money, to a 94 year old man who was dancing along to the music being played. The generosity and spirit of everyone involved was magical to see.”
The hard work of the organisers paid off and the fundraiser raised an amazing €11,000 for the hospice. Congratulations to Shirley and all involved in this inspirational event!
