Where the car accident is caused by another individual then their insurance company will be responsible for the damage to your car which is known as “material damage”.
If you bring your damaged car to your garage, they can provide you with an estimate of the cost of repair of the material damage.
If there is a dispute as to the amount you are being offered by the other driver’s insurance company then you can appoint your own motor assessor.
In normal circumstances, an agreement can be reached for the difference in the estimate of the material damage between the two quotes.
If agreement cannot be reached, or if liability is an issue between the parties then Court proceedings may have to be commenced to determine the dispute.
The person who caused the road traffic accident does not have insurance or fled the scene – what can I do?
In these circumstances, you will need to contact the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland who covers uninsured or untraced drivers to make a claim. If you need assistance on any of these issues, please feel free to contact our office.
