We often take the tyres on our cars for granted. The role they play in keeping us safe is critical, here are some tips you might find interesting
*If your Tyres are at or below the legal tread depth limit it can take twice the distance to stop
*It is estimated that 1 in 8 cars in Ireland have tyres below the legal limit of 1.6mm!!
*Best practice suggest that you regularly Check tread depth of tyres, adjust tyre pressure as necessary per your car manual. Check for cuts, bulges or embedded objects such a nails and screws
*Prosecution for defective tyres can lead to a fine of up to €2,500 or even receive a 3 month prison sentence. Five penalty points can be imposed on your license for such offences.
*Ensure your tyres are properly marked. Ensure your tyre has an ‘E-mark’, this is proof that the tyre was manufactured to meets minimum EU/Intemational requirements. Tyres must also have an ‘S-Mark’ which is a ‘sound marking’ certifying that the amount of road noise is compliant with EU standards
