Back to Reality
Ah, Summer. How we’ve loved those lazy evenings spent sipping wine on the patio and picking at cheese boards until the sun slips below the horizon. The 99s on the beach, complete with a huge Flake, thank you very much. The “ah, go on” when offered (another) slice of meringue at the family barbecue. Summer is the season of relaxation and indulgence, a time to live with reckless abandon because everyone deserves a break, right? Except now September is here, bringing with it a rude return to reality. It’s back to routine, a disheartening shift that also nudges the realisation that maybe it’s time to get back on top of your health game. We feel your pain, we really do, but never fear! We’ve scrounged together some top tips for making the transition from holidays to real life not only easy, but a time to pull a Queer Eye and transform yo’self.
1. Get Social
Firstly, it’s important to recognise that the post-holiday blues are a real and normal thing. A fella with ‘Professor’ in his title said so, so there! One possible remedy is to find something to look forward as a way to break up the monotony of everyday routine. Think a catch-up with friends you haven’t seen in yonks or a staycation in Ireland (check out our Flavours Of The Month section down below for our recommendation).
2. Stay Healthy
With your head back in the game, why not incorporate some easy methods to hop back on the health and fitness wagon that likely rolled away in the warmer months? Experts recommend starting your day with a glass of water, boosting the immune system by upping your fruit and veg intake (if you’re anything like us, ‘five a day’ has only been used in the context of Calippos lately), and practicing portion control which may have been a teeny bit difficult at all those summer soirees.
3. Keep Active
While the weather is still nice, build some incidental exercise into your new routine, like walking to work. Or if you’re addicted to your phone (us? Never!), download apps like Map My Run and 5K Runner: Couch to 5K. And if you’re feeling extra ambitious, you can make like Jennifer Aniston who reportedly wakes up at 4:30am, drinks hot water with lemon, and meditates for 20 minutes. Well for her!
